The term piastre derives from the French word for the Spanish "piece of eight" and was applied to the large silver trade coins of colonial Southeast Asia (hink Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos). Basically, this was a silver dollar for the French colonies of the area. This particular example is particularly lustrous, blast white, very impressive and housed in an old PCGS Gen 2 holder.
