The 1916-D Mercury Dime is a famous coin. For decades, kids of all ages (and many adults) have filled blue Whitman folders of mercury dimes. The type fascinated me as a kid too, and when I found one in my change I thought I struck it rich! For all of us kids (except for a couple lucky ones), there was always a hole where the 1916-D belonged. The coin is very rare, and thus extremely hard to find in old rolls of dimes or pocket change (even in the 1980s). Today, many collectors opt for the ever-available examples in AG03 or G04. These, in my opinion, are not rare. But once you move up the condition scale, the difficulty increases exponentially. Here we have a great grade for the 1916-D: Fine 15 and this has the CAC sticker for approval of quality. This is housed in a very interesting PCGS holder, commemorating the Denver mint.
